The Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has questioned the President John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government’s decision to give the reshaping of feeder roads to private contractors to the tune of GHc1.3 billion while the DRIP machines are currently inactive or lying idle.

Speaking in an interview with the Media, Hon. Adjei-Mensah Korsah, a former Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development under the NPP administration disclosed that the former President Akuffo-Addo utilized $178 million to acquire equipment for the District Roads Improvements Program (DRIP) to enhance the country’s feeder roads.

He is therefore extremely surprised that the current administration would choose to abandon the DRIP equipment and instead contract private companies to reshape feeder roads, when one-third of the 1.3 billion could be utilized to fuel the DRIP equipment for the same purpose.

As a former Minister responsible for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Adjei-Mensah Korsah indicated that he is well-informed that the DRIP equipment were in good working condition when he departed office in 2025, and therefore, cannot comprehend why the equipment lies idle in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and a large sum is being spent on private contractors.

He stated that multiple attempts were made to have the Minister for Finance appear in Parliament to elucidate the government’s rationale behind awarding a contract worth 1.3 billion to private entities for reshaping feeder roads, rather than utilizing the dormant DRIP machines but has not yielded any positive results.
