Former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against allowing internal disputes to undermine its electoral fortunes, stressing that unresolved conflicts have historically contributed to the party’s losses.

Drawing from her experience as chairperson of the party’s conflict resolution committee between 2010 and 2020, Mrs Osei-Opare said it had become evident that many of the NPP’s parliamentary and presidential election defeats were closely linked to internal disagreements and the party’s inability to heal quickly after internal contests.

According to her, the party has often struggled to forgive, reconcile and move forward following internal elections, a situation that weakens unity and affects overall performance during national polls.

She noted that the National Council of Patrons has consistently cautioned party members that, under no circumstances, should the choices made by delegates in any internal election degenerate into irreconcilable disagreements.

Mrs Osei-Opare emphasised that most positions within the NPP are elective and urged members to respect the outcomes of internal processes, regardless of individual preferences.

She called on party faithful to place the collective interest of the NPP above personal ambitions, stressing that unity, reconciliation and mutual respect are critical if the party is to remain competitive and electorally successful.

Mrs Osei-Opare noted “In my work as the chairperson of the party’s conflict resolution committee from 2010 to 2020, it became clear that our electoral losses both in parliamentary and presidential elections can be largely linked to the many internal conflicts within the party and our inability to heal faster.

“We are unable to forgive ourselves, reconcile and move on after our internal elections. The national council of patrons admonishes that under no circumstance should the choice of the delegates in any of its internal elections degenerate into irreconcilable disagreement, knowing that most of the positions in NPP remain elective positions.”
