He, Dr Bawumia, spoke briefly about it in the victory speech. It is how to restore the voting status of our external branches, the issue of proxy voting. He thinks that the decision by the presidential committee was perverse and must not be made to stand going forward,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia emerged victorious at the NPP’s presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, securing 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast. Kennedy Agyapong followed in second place with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), while Dr Bryan Acheampong placed third with 36,303 votes (18.53 per cent). Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Beyond electoral reforms, Mr Awuku noted that Dr Bawumia is deeply concerned about reconnecting the party with its grassroots and regaining broader national appeal, stressing the need to refresh the party’s image and internal culture.

“I also know that he is worried about how the party can put itself together going forward, and make sure that we are in a clear mindset, working towards victory in 2028. The feel and the look of the NPP as it stands today is one of the things that, in private, we have been discussing on how to make the NPP, once again, a party of choice, a party that is loved and respected,” he said.

He further indicated that adapting to shifting political dynamics and reinforcing the party’s pro-poor credentials form a central part of Dr Bawumia’s vision.

“Also, how the party responds to the changing trends on the ground, making sure that those below the ladder also feel the NPP is a party that responds to their needs, because of their pro-poor policies,” he added, stressing that internal discipline would also be non-negotiable.

“He is also very firm in the area of discipline. He thinks that a party that is not disciplined cannot win an election.”

Speaking on Citi FM on Monday, February 2, 2026, Mr Awuku also revealed that Dr Bawumia intends to engage widely with party stakeholders, including individuals who feel marginalised or aggrieved by previous decisions.

“Furthermore, he is determined to help everyone he believes has a role to play. He also wants to engage the people who feel bitter by policies of the party, within the party, or outside the party,” he said.

Source: myjoyonline.com

Senior Advisor to the Bawumia Campaign Team and Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, says former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is prioritising far-reaching internal reforms to reunite the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and position it strongly for victory in the 2028 general elections.
