{"id":25046,"date":"2026-01-21T14:13:44","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T14:13:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.fawefmonline.com\/?p=25046"},"modified":"2026-01-21T14:13:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T14:13:44","slug":"ghana-begins-talks-with-guinea-to-takeover-kwame-nkrumahs-residence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fawefmonline.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/21\/ghana-begins-talks-with-guinea-to-takeover-kwame-nkrumahs-residence\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana begins talks with Guinea to takeover Kwame Nkrumah\u2019s residence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government of Ghana has initiated negotiations with the family of Guinea\u2019s first President, Ahmed S\u00e9kou Tour\u00e9, to take possession of the residence where Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah lived and worked during his final years as Co-President of Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move, undertaken on the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama, is aimed at preserving the legacy of Ghana\u2019s first President and transforming the property into a heritage site for historical preservation and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was disclosed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, who said the Mahama administration intends to renovate and preserve the residence as a mark of respect to Dr. Nkrumah and to create a comprehensive experience that traces his life and leadership journey from Ghana to Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mr. Ablakwa, the decision was formally conveyed to the S\u00e9kou Tour\u00e9 family on Saturday when Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led a Ghanaian delegation to visit the family and tour Dr. Nkrumah\u2019s abandoned home in Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit followed the investiture of Guinea\u2019s President, Mamady Doumbouya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Mahama Administration intends to renovate and preserve Nkrumah\u2019s Guinea residence not only as an act of respect but also to preserve the Osagyefo\u2019s legacy and create a full experience for tourists to follow Nkrumah\u2019s outstanding life from Ghana to Guinea,\u201d part of his post stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Ablakwa noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently negotiating the terms and conditions of the proposed takeover while engaging preservation experts to guide the renovation and conservation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs is negotiating the terms and conditions and engaging preservation experts for this important assignment.
